Our Onehunga store is the premium powerhouse of bicycle servicing in Auckland, with two exceptionally experienced and qualified head mechanics, they can handle any request with fast turnaround times. Because of the skill and experience of our mechanics, we provide many specialized services that many stores do not, some of these include:
- High quality wheel building
- Suspension servicing - done in store, meaning faster turnaround and better rates, we deal with all leading brands including Fox, Rockshox, Manitou and Marzocchi
- Full suspension pivot servicing - we can service and replace the bearings and bushings on all major brands of full suspension, including but not limited to Giant, Trek, Specialized, Scott, Kona, GT, Merida, etc.
- Campagnolo drivetrain servicing - we service many bikes with Campagnolo and provide specialist services that many do not do in-store such as Ergopower shifter servicing & re-conditioning and Ultra-Tourque beaing replacements
- Hammerschmidt crank servicing - We can dismantle, service and re-condition your Hammerschmidt crankset in-store
- Shimano Nexus & Alfine hub servicing - We can dismantle & service Shimano internal geared hubs
Steve Gregory
Steve started working part-time in bike shops back in ’93 when he was 13. He was with Hedgehog Bikes Takapuna from when they first opened their doors in the mid 90’s; in 1999 he took over as Takapuna’s Workshop Manager. Steve opened Hedgehog Bikes Albany in 2006 where owned, managed and was mechanic at the store for 6 years. He has now transferred to team up with Chris and the rest of the team at Hedgehog Onehunga. Steve can assist you with expert advice and has many years of experience of riding and wrenching just about every type of bike out there.
Steve can handle any request including all suspension service work including Fox, Rockshox and Manitou, wheel building and hydraulic brake servicing. He has vast experience with Shimano, Sram and Campagnolo drive systems. Giant Maestro full suspension bikes are Steve’s specialty but he also has much experience with almost any other brand out there.
Steve has experience riding and racing everything from CrossCountry and Downhill mountain bikes to Road bikes and BMX’s. He frequents Woodhill Forest often and can be seen battling away in the bunch at the local Tuesday night criteriums. Bikes are Steve’s passion and it is reflected in his knowledge and quality of his work.
Chris Tuckey
Chris is the owner of Hedgehog Onehunga & one of the leading and most qualified bicycle mechanics in New Zealand. After joining the team at Hedgehog Takapuna in 2004, he became the Takapuna Workshop Manager in 2006 and then trained at the United Bicycle Institute in Oregon, USA in October and November 2007. He then went on to open Hedgehog Onehunga in April 2008.
Chris has a wealth of bicycle knowledge and mechanical experience, drawing from his passion for all kinds of cycling; from Road through to Cyclocross and Mountain Biking. Along with being a high quality mechanic, Chris is an exceptional wheel builder and is one of the few DT Swiss certified advanced wheel builders in New Zealand.
Hedgehog Bikes Takapuna
The Takapuna workshop is an authorised Shimano Service Centre and is manned by 2 experienced mechanics.
Nick Teeboon
Nick manages the Takapuna shop and assists in the workshop as required, particularly in the servicing of high-end road bikes. Nick is well-known on the North Shore, having raced at Westlake Boys High School, local Criterium’s as well as riding with local riding groups.
Hedgehog Bikes Tauranga
Our team at Tauranga is run by Kyle Hayward and the store owner Victor Haupt. Kyle has over 10 years experience in the industry. Our workshop is small and this ensures personal attention. Both of them ride bikes for fun and are passionate about customer service.
